Narwal robot vacuums combine vacuuming and mopping with a base station that washes the mop pads automatically. When WiFi pairing fails, the map will not save, or mopping performance drops, here is how to fix the most common problems.

Robot Not Connecting to WiFi

  1. Place the robot on the base station and make sure it is powered on before starting setup.
  2. Confirm your WiFi is 2.4GHz. Narwal does not support 5GHz. Split your bands temporarily if using a combined SSID.
  3. Listen for the voice prompt. The robot announces "Waiting for connection" in setup mode. If you do not hear it, hold the WiFi button until it speaks.
  4. Grant the app location permission on Android -- it is required to scan for WiFi networks.
  5. Try manual WiFi entry if QR code pairing fails. Some users find the QR method unreliable.
  6. Power cycle everything: Turn off robot, unplug base, restart router, wait two minutes, then try again.

Map Not Saving or Inaccurate

  1. Let the robot finish a full cleaning run without interruption. Pausing or early docking can prevent the map from saving.
  2. Do not move the base station during or after mapping. It is the reference point for the entire map.
  3. Clear the floor of clutter before the mapping run. Obstacles create phantom rooms and misaligned walls.
  4. After cleaning finishes, save the map in the app and edit room names and boundaries before starting regular schedules.
  5. Multi-floor maps: Carry the robot and base to the new floor for a separate map.

Mop Not Cleaning Well

  1. Refill the clean water tank before every mopping session. Empty tanks mean dry pads just pushing dirt around.
  2. Check mop pad attachment. Loose pads drag unevenly and skip areas.
  3. Increase water flow in the app. The default may not handle sticky or dried-on messes.
  4. Verify the base washes pads. If the dirty water tank is always empty after cleaning, the wash function may not be activating. Check that tanks are correctly seated.
  5. Replace mop pads when worn. After several months they lose cleaning effectiveness.

Robot Getting Stuck

  • Pick up cables, shoes, and small items before each run. Cables are the number one trap.
  • Set no-go zones for problem areas like under low furniture or near pet bowls.
  • Check wheels for tangled hair. Inspect main wheels and caster wheel, cutting away wrapped hair.
  • Wipe cliff sensors on the underside with a soft cloth if the robot thinks it is at an edge.

Base Station Maintenance

  1. Empty dirty water after every session or two. Standing dirty water breeds mold and odors.
  2. Rinse the dirty tank when emptying to prevent residue buildup.
  3. Clean the base station filter monthly for effective self-cleaning.

Voice Control

Link Narwal in the Alexa or Google Home app. Commands include "Start vacuuming," "Clean the kitchen," and "Send the robot home." Room names must match what you set in the Narwal app.

When to Contact Support

Reach out to Narwal if the robot makes grinding noises from the drive wheels, the LiDAR turret is visibly loose, the base station pump stops entirely, or the robot will not power on after a full charge. These are hardware issues troubleshooting cannot resolve.
