Onvis makes HomeKit-native sensors and plugs that connect through Apple Home without a separate manufacturer app. They are simple devices, but pairing failures and "No Response" errors can be surprisingly stubborn.
Sensor or Plug Not Pairing
- Scan the HomeKit setup code using the Apple Home app. If it will not scan, tap "I Don't Have a Code" and enter the 8-digit code manually.
- Verify you have a Home Hub online. Bluetooth Onvis sensors require a HomePod, HomePod mini, or Apple TV as a hub. Without one, pairing fails.
- Move the device close to the Home Hub during initial pairing. Bluetooth range is limited, especially through walls.
- Restart your Home Hub. Unplug your HomePod or Apple TV and replug it. A hung Bluetooth stack is a common hidden cause of pairing failures.
- Remove phantom devices from partial pairing attempts in Home app settings before retrying.
- Update iOS on your phone and Home Hub. HomeKit pairing bugs are frequently fixed in updates.
Contact Sensor (CT3) Problems
- Check alignment between sensor and magnet -- they should be parallel and within 15mm when closed.
- Wrong state reported? Remove and reinstall, matching the alignment marks on both pieces.
- Battery is CR2450, lasting roughly 12 months. Erratic readings often mean a dying battery.
- Thread versions need a Thread border router (HomePod mini or newer Apple TV) for mesh networking.
Motion Sensor (SMS2) Issues
- Mount at 6-7 feet high. PIR works best when motion crosses the field of view rather than moving toward/away.
- Cooldown period: The sensor will not report new motion for about 3 minutes after a detection. This is by design.
- Battery is CR123A. Unreliable detection or frozen temperature readings usually means the battery needs replacing.
Smart Plug (Matter) Setup
- Scan the Matter QR code from the device label using Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, or the HA companion app.
- For multi-admin, add to one platform first, then share via Matter sharing to additional platforms.
- If pairing fails, make sure your controller firmware supports Matter. Older HomePods and Apple TVs may need updates.
Fixing "No Response" Errors
- Replace the battery even if the app does not show a low battery warning -- the warning itself requires a working connection.
- Check your Home Hub status in Home Settings. It should show "Connected," not "Standby."
- Move closer to the hub or add a HomePod mini to extend Bluetooth range (about 30 feet through walls).
- Power cycle the Home Hub by unplugging for 10 seconds to clear stale Bluetooth connections.
- Last resort: Remove the accessory in the Home app and re-pair from scratch. You will lose automations tied to that device.
Home Assistant Integration
Use HomeKit Controller for Bluetooth devices or the Matter integration for Matter devices. Sensor entities are created automatically once paired, and automations run locally in HA.
When to Contact Onvis Support
Reach out if the device LED will not blink during pairing mode after a fresh battery, if the HomeKit code is damaged or unreadable, or if the device was paired to an iCloud account you no longer have access to.
