Philips Hue Gradient light strips and Play bars offer multi-color ambient lighting, often used for TV backlighting. This guide covers pairing, color, and entertainment issues.

Lights Not Pairing

Symptoms

  • Lights not found by bridge
  • Serial number doesn't work
  • Power on but won't pair

Solutions

  1. Power on lights - Ensure lights are powered before searching.
  2. Search for lights - In Hue app, Settings > Light setup > Add light.
  3. Enter serial - If not found, enter serial number from product.
  4. Close to bridge - Keep within 15 feet of bridge during pairing.
  5. Factory reset - Use Hue Bluetooth app or touchlink reset if needed.

Gradient Colors Not Working

Symptoms

  • Only showing single color
  • Gradient effect not visible
  • Sections not matching

Solutions

  1. Use gradient scenes - Select gradient-specific scenes in Hue app.
  2. Entertainment area - For Sync Box, set up entertainment area with gradient strip.
  3. Correct positioning - Mark left/right ends correctly during setup.
  4. Update firmware - Ensure lights and bridge have latest firmware.

Play Bar Issues

Symptoms

  • Play bars dim or not matching
  • Color sync issues
  • Power adapter problems

Solutions

  1. Power adapter - Use included power adapter; can daisy-chain up to 3 bars.
  2. Even spacing - Position bars evenly for consistent lighting.
  3. Entertainment setup - Add to entertainment area for sync features.
  4. Individual control - Each bar is separately controllable in app.

Hue Sync Box Integration

Symptoms

  • Lights not syncing to TV
  • Entertainment area not detecting lights
  • Delay between screen and lights

Solutions

  1. Entertainment area - Create entertainment area with gradient/play lights.
  2. Sync Box setup - In Sync Box app, assign lights to screen positions.
  3. Intensity - Adjust sync intensity for preference.
  4. HDMI connection - Verify HDMI passthrough is working correctly.

Light Strip Extensions

Symptoms

  • Extension not lighting
  • Colors different on extension
  • Maximum length exceeded

Solutions

  1. Connection check - Ensure extension connector is fully seated.
  2. Maximum length - Don't exceed maximum extension length.
  3. Power distribution - Very long strips may need additional power.
  4. Gradient zones - Gradient strip has specific zones; extensions maintain gradient.
