The Ring Alarm Motion Detector (2nd Gen) uses passive infrared (PIR) technology to detect movement within its 90-degree, 30-foot detection range. The sensor triggers alerts when motion is detected while your Ring Alarm is armed, providing interior protection beyond entry point monitoring. The compact design mounts in corners or flat on walls for flexible placement.

The 2nd generation features improved detection accuracy with adjustable sensitivity settings and a pet-friendly mode that ignores animals up to 50 pounds (results vary based on pet behavior). Three sensitivity levels (low, medium, high) allow customization for different environments. The sensor communicates via Z-Wave protocol with approximately 250-foot range in open areas.

Powered by a single CR123A battery with up to 3-year lifespan, the sensor requires minimal maintenance. Mount using included adhesive or screws at the recommended height of 7 feet for optimal coverage. When triggered with the system armed, the sensor activates the alarm, sends notifications, and can trigger Alexa announcements or automations. Use multiple sensors to cover large areas or create motion-activated lighting scenes.
