The Ring Alarm Contact Sensor (2nd Gen) detects when doors and windows are opened or closed, providing the foundation for entry monitoring in your Ring Alarm system. The two-piece design consists of a sensor unit and a magnet - when separated by more than 1 inch, the sensor reports the open state to your Ring Alarm Base Station. Use for exterior doors, windows, garage service doors, and any opening you want to monitor.
The 2nd generation design features a smaller form factor than the original, with improved battery life lasting up to 3 years under normal use. The sensor communicates via Z-Wave protocol with the Base Station, with a typical indoor range of 250 feet in open areas (less through walls). Installation requires no tools - simply attach with the included adhesive strips or optional screws.
When triggered, the sensor can activate the alarm (if system is armed), send push notifications to your phone, trigger Alexa announcements, and initiate automations with other Ring and Alexa-compatible devices. The app displays real-time status and sensor history, showing when doors were opened throughout the day. Add multiple sensors to monitor all entry points in your home.
