What's in the Box
The IKEA KADRILJ Light Filtering Smart Blind package includes the motorized roller blind with light-filtering fabric, a rechargeable battery pack, a USB-C charging cable, mounting brackets with screws, and an installation guide. The KADRILJ allows natural light to filter through while still providing privacy, making it a great choice for living rooms, kitchens, and offices. Like the FYRTUR, it communicates over Zigbee and requires an IKEA Dirigera hub or the older TRADFRI gateway for smart functionality.
Prerequisites
- An IKEA Dirigera hub or TRADFRI gateway connected to your home Wi-Fi network
- The IKEA Home Smart app (for Dirigera) or the TRADFRI app (for the older gateway) installed and updated
- A drill, appropriate drill bits, a pencil, a level, and a screwdriver
- Verify that the blind width matches your window opening — KADRILJ blinds come in fixed sizes and cannot be cut to fit
- Charge the battery pack fully before mounting (allow 6 to 8 hours via USB-C)
Step-by-Step Installation
- Charge the battery pack. Connect the included USB-C cable to the battery and a power source. Wait for a full charge before installing — this ensures months of operation between charges. The LED indicator will show when charging is complete.
- Choose your mounting position. The KADRILJ can be mounted inside the window recess for a clean look or outside on the wall or frame above the window for maximum coverage. Measure and mark bracket positions accordingly.
- Install the brackets. Use a level to align both brackets evenly. Drill pilot holes, then secure the brackets with the provided screws. If mounting into drywall without a stud, use appropriate wall anchors to prevent the brackets from pulling loose under the blind's weight.
- Snap the blind into the brackets. Hold the KADRILJ roller up to the brackets and push each end in until it clicks firmly into place. Give the blind a gentle downward pull to confirm it is secure.
- Connect the battery. Attach the charged battery pack to the slot on the roller mechanism. The motor will briefly activate to confirm a successful connection.
- Pair via the IKEA Home Smart app. Open the app, tap +, and select Blinds. The app will scan for Zigbee devices. Tap the KADRILJ when it appears. If needed, press the pairing button on the blind motor to initiate discovery mode.
- Set the open and closed limits. The app will walk you through positioning the blind at its fully open and fully closed points. Confirm each position to complete calibration.
Smart Home Integration Tips
Once connected through the Dirigera hub, the KADRILJ can be controlled via Apple Home, Google Home, or Amazon Alexa using Matter. Schedule the blind to partially lower during the brightest part of the day to reduce glare while still letting in natural light. Pair it with a VINDSTYRKA sensor to create automations — for instance, raise the blind when indoor temperature drops to let in warming sunlight. Group multiple KADRILJ blinds on the same wall for synchronized control. Use a STYRBAR or SOMRIG remote to adjust the blind position without opening an app.
Quick Troubleshooting
If the blind does not move when commanded, check the battery charge level first — a low battery is the most frequent issue. Recharge and retry. If the blind moves but stops at the wrong position, recalibrate the limits through the IKEA Home Smart app. For pairing difficulties, press and hold the small reset button on the motor for 10 seconds to factory reset the Zigbee radio, then pair again. If the blind is far from your hub and commands are unreliable, add a Zigbee signal repeater (such as the TRADFRI signal repeater) in a nearby outlet to extend network coverage.
