What's in the Box

The IKEA FYRTUR Blackout Smart Blind package includes the motorized roller blind, a rechargeable battery pack, a USB-C charging cable, mounting brackets with screws, a signal repeater (included with some units), and an installation guide. The FYRTUR features a blackout fabric that blocks virtually all incoming light, making it ideal for bedrooms, nurseries, and media rooms. The blind communicates over Zigbee and requires an IKEA Dirigera hub (or the older TRADFRI gateway) for smart control.

Prerequisites

  • An IKEA Dirigera hub or TRADFRI gateway set up and connected to your Wi-Fi network
  • The IKEA Home Smart app (for Dirigera) or the older IKEA TRADFRI app (for the TRADFRI gateway), installed and updated
  • A drill, appropriate drill bits, a pencil, and a level for mounting
  • Confirm the blind width matches your window — FYRTUR blinds are available in several fixed widths and cannot be trimmed
  • Fully charge the battery pack before installation (approximately 6 to 8 hours for a complete charge via USB-C)

Step-by-Step Installation

  1. Charge the battery pack. Connect the USB-C cable to the battery and plug it into a power source. A full charge will power the blind for several months of normal use. The LED on the battery indicates charging progress.
  2. Position the mounting brackets. Decide whether to mount inside the window recess or on the wall above the window. Hold each bracket in position, use a level to ensure they are aligned, and mark the screw holes with a pencil.
  3. Drill and secure the brackets. Drill pilot holes at your marked positions and fasten the brackets with the included screws. For drywall without studs, use appropriate wall anchors to ensure a secure hold — the blind and battery have some weight to them.
  4. Click the blind into the brackets. Hold the FYRTUR roller at bracket height and slide each end into its respective bracket until both sides click securely into place.
  5. Attach the battery pack. Snap the charged battery into the designated slot on the roller mechanism. The blind will make a brief sound or movement to confirm the connection.
  6. Pair with your hub. Open the IKEA Home Smart app, tap the + icon, and choose Blinds. The app will scan for available Zigbee devices. Select the FYRTUR when it appears. If it does not show up, press the small pairing button on the blind motor to enter discovery mode.
  7. Calibrate the blind positions. Follow the in-app prompts to set the fully open and fully closed positions. Lower and raise the blind to each limit and confirm in the app.

Smart Home Integration Tips

The FYRTUR works with Apple Home, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa when connected through the Dirigera hub via Matter. Create schedules to close the blinds at bedtime for total darkness and open them in the morning as a gentle wake-up alternative to an alarm. Pair the FYRTUR with a SOMRIG shortcut button for one-tap control without reaching for your phone. If you have multiple FYRTUR blinds on the same window wall, group them in the IKEA Home Smart app so they move in unison. For home theater setups, include the FYRTUR in a "Movie Mode" scene that also dims your lights.

Quick Troubleshooting

If the blind does not respond to app commands, the most common culprit is a depleted battery — recharge it fully and test again. If the blind stops at inconsistent positions, recalibrate the open and closed limits in the app. For Zigbee range issues, position the included signal repeater (if provided) in a wall outlet between the hub and the blind. To factory reset the FYRTUR, press and hold the small button on the motor housing for about 10 seconds until the blind jolts briefly, then re-pair through the app.
