What's in the Box
The iRobot Roomba Combo Essential package includes: the Roomba Combo Essential robot vacuum and mop, a charging dock, a power cord, a side brush, a mopping pad, and the quick start guide. Confirm that all items are present and in good condition before beginning setup.
Prerequisites
Have the following ready before you start:
- A 2.4 GHz WiFi network with the password available
- The iRobot Home app installed on your iOS or Android phone
- A flat area near a wall outlet for the charging dock, with at least 1 foot of clearance on each side and 3 feet of open space in front
- Floors free of loose cables, small toys, and clutter for the robot's initial cleaning and learning runs
Step-by-Step Setup
- Position the charging dock: Place the charging dock on a hard, flat surface against a wall. Connect the power cord and plug it into a wall outlet. The dock indicator light will turn on when it has power. The Roomba Combo Essential uses a standard charging dock without auto-empty functionality, so there's no bag to install.
- Prepare the Roomba Combo Essential: Remove all protective films and packaging tape from the robot. Turn it over and snap the side brush into place on the mounting point. Attach the mopping pad to the underside of the robot using the velcro or clip mount. Fill the small onboard water tank through its cap with clean water.
- Charge the robot: Place the Roomba Combo Essential on the charging dock. The battery indicator will show the charging status. Allow a full charge of about 2 to 3 hours before the first use.
- Pair with the iRobot Home app: Open the iRobot Home app and sign in or create a new account. Tap "+" to add a device and select "Roomba Combo Essential." The app will guide you through the WiFi pairing process. When prompted, press and hold the single button on top of the robot for 2 seconds until you hear a tone and the light flashes, indicating the robot is ready to pair.
- Start your first cleaning run: The Roomba Combo Essential uses a reactive navigation system rather than camera or LiDAR-based mapping. It navigates using sensors to detect walls, furniture, and drop-offs. Launch a cleaning session from the iRobot Home app or press the Clean button on the robot. The robot will systematically work through your space, learning the environment over multiple runs.
- Configure cleaning preferences: In the iRobot Home app, set your cleaning preferences including suction power level, scheduling, and cleaning mode (vacuum only, mop only, or vacuum and mop). You can schedule the robot to clean at specific times on different days of the week.
Smart Home Integration Tips
The Roomba Combo Essential works with Amazon Alexa and Google Home for basic voice control. Link your iRobot account in the Alexa or Google Home app to enable commands like "Alexa, start the Roomba" or "Hey Google, stop the vacuum." While the Combo Essential doesn't support room-specific voice commands like the j-series models, you can start, stop, and send it home using voice. The iRobot Home app also allows you to set up basic scheduling so the robot cleans automatically at your preferred times without any voice or manual input.
Quick Troubleshooting
If the Roomba Combo Essential won't connect during app pairing, verify you're on a 2.4 GHz WiFi network. Reset the WiFi module by holding the Clean button for 20 seconds until you hear a tone. If the robot seems to miss areas or clean inefficiently, allow it several runs to learn your space — reactive navigation improves over time. If mopping leaves the floor too wet or too dry, adjust the water flow in the iRobot Home app. Empty the dustbin and clean the filter after every few runs for the best suction performance. Check for firmware updates in the app to keep the robot running smoothly.
