What You'll Need
- Rachio 3 Smart Sprinkler Controller (8-Zone)
- Existing sprinkler system with up to 8 zones
- Rachio app on smartphone
- WiFi network (2.4GHz)
- Wire strippers and screwdriver
Step-by-Step Setup
- Turn off power: Switch off the circuit breaker for your existing sprinkler controller.
- Document existing wiring: Take a photo of current controller wiring before disconnecting.
- Remove old controller: Disconnect wires and remove old unit from wall.
- Mount Rachio: Use included mounting bracket. Indoor or outdoor (weatherproof) location works.
- Connect zone wires: Attach each zone wire to corresponding terminal (1-8). Use backplate labels.
- Connect common wire: Attach common (C) wire to C terminal. Connect master valve if present.
- Connect power: Wire AC power to AC terminals or use included power adapter.
- Power on: Turn on breaker. Rachio light pulses when starting.
- Download Rachio app: Install and create account.
- Add controller: Scan QR code on device. Follow WiFi setup prompts.
- Configure zones: Name each zone, select plant type, soil, and exposure settings.

Troubleshooting
- Zone won't run: Check wire connection at terminal. Test zone with manual run.
- No WiFi connection: Ensure 2.4GHz network. Move controller closer to router if needed.
- Offline in app: Power cycle controller. Check WiFi credentials haven't changed.
- Watering at wrong times: Verify time zone setting. Check schedule isn't in standby mode.
- Weather Intelligence not working: Ensure location is set correctly. Enable in app settings.
