What You'll Need

  • RainMachine Pro-8 controller
  • Existing sprinkler wiring

Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Turn off power: Switch off the circuit breaker for your existing sprinkler controller.
  2. Remove old controller: Take a photo of your current wiring for reference. Disconnect all zone wires.
  3. Mount RainMachine: Use the included bracket to mount in the same location or a new weather-protected spot.
  4. Connect zone wires: Attach each zone wire to the corresponding numbered terminal (1-8). Connect the common wire to C.
  5. Connect power: Wire the 24VAC transformer to the power terminals, or use the included adapter.
  6. Power on: Turn on the breaker. The touchscreen will illuminate.
  7. Initial setup on device: Use the 6.5" touchscreen to set language, time zone, and location.
  8. Connect WiFi (optional): Navigate to Settings > WiFi. Select your network. Note: RainMachine works fully offline.
  9. Configure zones: Name each zone and set vegetation type, soil type, slope, and sun exposure.
  10. Enable weather intelligence: The device downloads local weather data to auto-adjust watering.
  11. Create programs: Set watering schedules or let RainMachine auto-generate based on your zone settings.

Troubleshooting

  • Zone not activating: Check wire connections. Test manually from the touchscreen.
  • Weather data not updating: Verify WiFi connection or check the weather service in settings.
  • Touchscreen unresponsive: Clean the screen. Restart the device if needed.
  • Over/under watering: Adjust zone parameters—soil type and sun exposure significantly affect calculations.
