Placement Tips

The Nest Mini is one of the most versatile smart speakers when it comes to placement. Its flat, puck-like design fits on nightstands, kitchen counters, and desks without taking up much room. It also has a wall-mount slot built into the back, so you can hang it on a screw like a picture frame. Wall mounting is a great option for bathrooms or kitchens where counter space is limited.

If you wall-mount it, keep in mind that the speaker fires sound downward and outward. Mounting it at about head height or slightly above works well. Avoid placing it directly behind large objects or in tight corners where the sound gets trapped.

The Nest Mini has an ultrasound proximity sensor that lights up the volume LEDs when your hand gets close. This works in any orientation, whether the speaker is on a table or mounted on a wall.

Multi-Room Audio

The Nest Mini makes an affordable way to fill your home with music. Buy a few and create a speaker group in the Google Home app. Tap "+", select "Create speaker group," name it, and pick the speakers. Say "Hey Google, play music on whole house" and every speaker in the group plays in sync.

You can also broadcast messages to all your Google speakers at once. Say "Hey Google, broadcast dinner is ready" and the message plays on every device in your home.

Smart Home Integration

Despite its small size, the Nest Mini is a full-featured Google Assistant hub. It can control any device linked to your Google Home, from smart bulbs and plugs to thermostats and robot vacuums. Set up routines in the Google Home app to trigger multiple actions with a single voice command. A bedtime routine could lock the doors, dim the lights, and set your thermostat all at once.

Troubleshooting

  • LED lights not pulsing during setup: Unplug the Nest Mini for 30 seconds, then plug it back in. If the lights still do not pulse, try a different power outlet.
  • Will not connect to Wi-Fi: Make sure your phone is connected to the same network you want the speaker on. If your router broadcasts 2.4GHz and 5GHz as separate networks, try 2.4GHz first. Also double-check that you are entering the correct password.
  • Microphone not hearing you: Check the mute switch on the side of the speaker. When it shows orange, the microphone is turned off. Slide it to unmute. If it still does not respond, try moving it away from noisy appliances or TVs.
  • "Hey Google" not triggering: Go to the Google Home app, select the Nest Mini, tap Settings, then Recognition and Sharing, and make sure Voice Match is enabled. Retrain your voice model if needed.
  • Factory reset: Press and hold the center of the device for about 15 seconds. You will hear a chime confirming the reset has started. The device will return to its out-of-box state.
