What's in the Box
The IKEA PRAKTLYSING Cellular Blind package includes the motorized blind unit, a rechargeable battery pack, a USB-C charging cable, mounting brackets, screws, and an installation guide. The PRAKTLYSING uses a honeycomb cellular design that provides excellent insulation, helping regulate room temperature while offering smart control through the IKEA Home Smart ecosystem. This blind communicates via Zigbee and requires an IKEA Dirigera hub for app control and automations.
Prerequisites
- An IKEA Dirigera hub already set up and connected to your home Wi-Fi network
- The IKEA Home Smart app installed and updated on your iOS or Android device
- A drill and appropriate drill bits for your window frame or wall material
- A measuring tape to confirm the blind fits your window — PRAKTLYSING blinds come in specific widths, so double-check before starting
- Fully charge the battery pack before installation using the included USB-C cable (a full charge takes approximately 6 to 8 hours)
Step-by-Step Installation
- Charge the battery. Connect the USB-C cable to the battery pack and plug it into a power source. The LED indicator on the battery will show the charging status. Wait for a full charge before proceeding — this ensures reliable operation for several months between charges.
- Install the mounting brackets. Hold the brackets up to your window frame or wall at the desired height. Mark the screw positions with a pencil, then drill pilot holes and secure the brackets with the included screws. Ensure both brackets are level — an uneven mount can cause the blind to operate unevenly.
- Attach the blind. Slide the PRAKTLYSING blind into the mounted brackets until it clicks into place. Give it a gentle tug downward to confirm it is securely seated.
- Connect the battery pack. Snap the charged battery pack into its slot on the blind's roller mechanism. The motor should activate briefly, confirming a connection.
- Pair with the Dirigera hub. Open the IKEA Home Smart app and tap the + icon. Select Blinds from the device list. The app will scan for the blind over Zigbee — once it appears, tap to pair. If it does not appear, press the small pairing button on the blind mechanism.
- Set upper and lower limits. The app will guide you through calibrating the blind's fully open and fully closed positions. Follow the on-screen prompts to move the blind to each position and confirm.
Smart Home Integration Tips
Once paired, you can control the PRAKTLYSING from the IKEA Home Smart app, adjust it by percentage, and schedule it to open and close at specific times. Create a morning routine that gradually opens the blinds at sunrise or a privacy scene that closes all blinds at sunset. The Dirigera hub's Matter support lets you also control the blind through Apple Home, Google Home, or Amazon Alexa with voice commands like "Hey Siri, close the bedroom blinds." Combine the blind with a VINDSTYRKA sensor to automatically adjust based on temperature or light conditions.
Quick Troubleshooting
If the blind does not respond after installation, check that the battery pack is fully seated and charged. A depleted battery is the most common cause of unresponsive blinds — recharge it using the USB-C cable and test again. If the blind moves unevenly or stops partway, recalibrate the upper and lower limits in the IKEA Home Smart app. For pairing issues, press and hold the small reset button on the blind's motor for 10 seconds to factory reset the Zigbee radio, then re-pair through the app.
