What You'll Need

  • Marshall Uxbridge Voice
  • Amazon Alexa app (for the Alexa model) or Google Home app (for the Google model)

  • Account for your chosen voice assistant platform

Important: Two Separate Models

Marshall sells the Uxbridge Voice in two versions: one with Alexa and one with Google Assistant. These are different hardware products that cannot be switched between platforms. Check the label on the box or the bottom of the speaker to confirm which version you have before starting setup.

Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Plug in the Marshall Uxbridge. It has a built-in power cable, so just plug it directly into a wall outlet. The light ring on top will indicate it is in setup mode.
  2. Download the appropriate app:
    • Alexa model: Use the Amazon Alexa app. Go to Devices, tap "+", then Add Device, select Speaker, and find Marshall.
    • Google model: Use the Google Home app. Tap "+", then "Set up device," then "New device."
  3. Follow the setup wizard to connect the speaker to your Wi-Fi network.
  4. Configure voice assistant preferences and link your music streaming services.
  5. Adjust the sound using the analog brass controls on top. The Uxbridge has physical knobs for volume, bass, and treble.

Placement and Sound Tips

The Uxbridge is small but puts out serious sound for its size, thanks to Marshall's custom-tuned driver. It plugs directly into a wall outlet, so placement depends on where your outlets are. It works well on a kitchen counter near an outlet, on a shelf with an outlet behind it, or in a bedroom.

The brass analog controls on top are one of the best features. Unlike most smart speakers where you have to dig into an app for EQ settings, the Uxbridge gives you physical bass and treble knobs right on the speaker. Twist to boost or cut low and high frequencies. For spoken content like podcasts, dial the bass back a bit and bump the treble up for clearer voices. For music, crank the bass knob and enjoy the Marshall sound signature.

Since the speaker plugs into an outlet and sits flush against the wall by design, bass can be boosted by the wall behind it. If it is too much, just lower the bass knob slightly.

Multi-Room Audio

The Uxbridge supports AirPlay 2 and Spotify Connect regardless of which assistant model you have. AirPlay 2 lets you group it with other AirPlay speakers (HomePods, Sonos, etc.) for multi-room audio from your iPhone or Mac. Spotify Connect lets you cast music directly from the Spotify app.

With the Alexa model, you can create multi-room music groups with other Alexa speakers. With the Google model, you can create speaker groups with other Google/Chromecast speakers.

Troubleshooting

  • Wrong app: If setup is not working, double-check that you are using the correct app for your model. The Alexa version will not set up through Google Home, and vice versa. Check the label on the bottom of the speaker.
  • Bluetooth pairing for direct streaming: Press the Bluetooth button on the back until the LED blinks. Select the Uxbridge from your phone's Bluetooth settings. Bluetooth works independently of the voice assistant.
  • Voice assistant not hearing you: The microphone is built into the top of the speaker. If music is playing loudly, the mic may struggle to pick up your voice. Lower the volume first or speak closer to the speaker. Also check that the microphone is not muted.
  • Analog controls feel stuck: The brass knobs are stiff by design. They should not spin freely. Firm but gentle rotation is normal. If a knob truly will not turn, contact Marshall support.
  • Factory reset: Press and hold the play button on the front of the speaker for 15 or more seconds until the light ring indicates a reset. The speaker will restart in setup mode.
