Existing sprinkler valve wiring

Step 1: Turn Off Power

If replacing an existing timer, turn off power at the circuit breaker or disconnect the old timer from its power source.

Step 2: Document Existing Wiring

Take a photo of your current timer's wiring connections before disconnecting. This reference will help ensure correct reconnection.

Step 3: Mount the Timer

The ST8O is rated for outdoor use. Mount it in a location with good Wi-Fi signal (at least 2 bars on your phone). Use the included mounting hardware to secure it to the wall.

Step 4: Connect Valve Wires

Connect each zone's valve wire to the corresponding terminal (1-8). Connect the common wire to the C terminal. Ensure all connections are tight and secure.

Step 5: Connect Power

Connect the transformer to the timer and plug it into a weather-protected outlet. The timer will power on and display setup instructions.

Step 6: Download the App

Download the Rain Bird app from the App Store or Google Play. Create an account or sign in.

Step 7: Connect to Wi-Fi

Follow the app's setup wizard to connect your timer to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. The free Rain Bird app will walk you through programming.

Step 8: Configure Zones

Use the app to name each zone, set watering schedules, and configure smart watering features based on local weather data.

Troubleshooting

No Wi-Fi connection: Verify 2 bars signal strength; use Wi-Fi extender if needed
Zone not watering: Check valve wire connection; test valve manually
App can't find timer: Ensure timer is powered; restart app; check Wi-Fi
