What You'll Need

  • SwitchBot Contact Sensor (Matter version)
  • SwitchBot Hub 2 or Hub Mini (Matter-enabled) already set up
  • SwitchBot app installed on your smartphone
  • Matter-compatible smart home platform (Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, SmartThings)
  • 2.4GHz WiFi network

Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Prepare the sensor: Remove the battery tab from the back of the sensor. The LED will flash briefly to indicate power.
  2. Open the SwitchBot app: Tap the "+" icon in the top right corner and select "Contact Sensor" from the device list.
  3. Put sensor in pairing mode: Press and hold the reset button on the sensor for 3 seconds until the LED flashes rapidly.
  4. Connect to hub: The app will detect the sensor. Select your SwitchBot Hub to link the sensor.
  5. Name and place: Give your sensor a name (e.g., "Front Door") and choose its location.
  6. Enable Matter: In the sensor settings, tap "Matter Setup" and select your target platform.
  7. Scan Matter code: Use your smart home app to scan the Matter QR code displayed in SwitchBot.
  8. Mount the sensor: Use the included adhesive strips to mount the main sensor on the door frame and the magnet on the door, aligned within 15mm of each other.

Troubleshooting

  • Sensor not pairing: Ensure sensor is within 5 meters of the hub during setup. Hold reset button until LED flashes rapidly.
  • Delayed status updates: Check that hub has strong WiFi connection. Matter status may have slight delay compared to native SwitchBot.
  • Incorrect open/close state: Verify magnet alignment with sensor. Gap should be less than 15mm when closed.
  • Matter setup fails: Update SwitchBot Hub firmware. Ensure hub supports Matter (Hub 2 or updated Hub Mini).
  • Battery draining quickly: Reduce motion detection sensitivity or disable if not needed.
