Common Causes

  • Wi-Fi connection lost or unstable, interrupting audio streaming
  • Bluetooth pairing conflict with a previously connected device
  • The music streaming service account is not linked or has expired
  • Audio output is set to a paired device instead of the Echo Studio's built-in speakers
  • The microphone is muted, preventing voice commands
  • Software glitch or outdated firmware affecting audio playback
  • The Echo Studio is placed in a location that interferes with its room adaptation calibration

Step 1: Verify Power and Basic Functionality

  1. Check that the Echo Studio is plugged in and the light ring on the bottom is active.
  2. If the light ring is solid red, the microphone is muted. Press the microphone off button on top to unmute.
  3. Say "Alexa" and watch for the blue light response. If the blue light appears but no audio comes out, the issue is with audio output rather than connectivity.
  4. Press the volume up button on top of the device to ensure the volume is not set to zero.

Step 2: Check Audio Output Settings

  1. Open the Alexa app and go to Devices > Echo & Alexa > Echo Studio.
  2. Check if the Echo Studio is part of a Home Theatre group or stereo pair. If it is paired with another device, audio may be routing to the other device instead.
  3. If the Studio is connected to a Fire TV as a home theatre speaker, it may not play music independently while in that mode. Disconnect the Home Theatre group temporarily to test standalone playback.
  4. Check if a Bluetooth device is connected. Go to Settings > Bluetooth Connections on the Echo Studio. If a phone or tablet is connected via Bluetooth, audio may be playing through that device. Disconnect the Bluetooth device to test.

Step 3: Test Audio Playback

  1. Say "Alexa, play test sound" or "Alexa, play music" to trigger audio playback.
  2. If Alexa responds verbally but music does not play, the issue may be with your linked music service. Open the Alexa app and go to Settings > Music & Podcasts to verify your service is connected.
  3. Try a different music source. Say "Alexa, play music on Amazon Music" to test with the default service.
  4. If no audio comes from the speakers at all (not even Alexa's voice), the speaker hardware may be the issue.

Step 4: Check Wi-Fi Connection

  1. In the Alexa app, check if the Echo Studio shows as Online under Devices > Echo & Alexa.
  2. If it is offline, restart the Echo Studio by unplugging it for 30 seconds and plugging it back in.
  3. If it still cannot connect, restart your router by unplugging it for 60 seconds.
  4. Audio stuttering, skipping, or cutting out during playback usually indicates a weak Wi-Fi signal. Move the Echo Studio closer to the router or add a mesh network node.
  5. The Echo Studio supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi. For high-quality audio streaming (especially Dolby Atmos and Ultra HD Music), 5GHz provides more bandwidth.

Step 5: Recalibrate Room Adaptation

The Echo Studio uses built-in microphones to detect room acoustics and automatically calibrates its audio output. If you have moved the device, it may need to recalibrate.

  1. Place the Echo Studio in its intended location, at least 6 inches from walls. The upward-firing speaker for Dolby Atmos needs clearance above the device.
  2. The Echo Studio calibrates automatically when it detects it has been moved. To force recalibration, unplug the device, move it slightly, and plug it back in.
  3. Do not place the Echo Studio inside a cabinet, on the floor, or directly in a corner, as these positions degrade the spatial audio experience.

Step 6: Update Software

  1. In the Alexa app, go to Devices > Echo Studio > Settings > Device Software Version.
  2. Restart the device while connected to Wi-Fi to trigger an automatic update check.
  3. Audio playback bugs and connectivity issues are frequently resolved through firmware updates.

Step 7: Factory Reset

  1. If audio still does not work, factory reset the Echo Studio.
  2. Press and hold the Action button (the dot button) on top of the device for 20 seconds.
  3. The light ring will flash orange, then the device will enter setup mode.
  4. Re-add the Echo Studio through the Alexa app and test audio playback.

When to Contact Support

If the Echo Studio produces distorted sound, crackling, or no audio at all from any of its five speakers after a factory reset, there may be a hardware failure. The Echo Studio contains a 5.25-inch woofer, 1-inch tweeter, and three midrange speakers. Contact Amazon Customer Support for warranty service if any speaker driver appears damaged.
