Common Causes

  • The hub has lost its WiFi or Ethernet connection
  • Hub firmware is outdated or a recent update caused instability
  • The Zigbee network is overloaded or has interference from 2.4 GHz WiFi
  • A power outage or surge disrupted the hub
  • Zigbee devices have moved out of range or the mesh network has gaps
  • The hub's Zigbee radio has locked up and needs a restart

Fix 1: Restart the Hub

  1. Unplug the Aqara Hub M3 (or M2) from power.
  2. Wait 15 seconds to allow the hub to fully discharge.
  3. Plug the hub back in and wait 1 to 2 minutes for it to fully boot up.
  4. Check the hub's LED indicator. A solid color (typically blue or white depending on your model) means the hub is connected and operating normally.
  5. Open the Aqara Home app and verify the hub shows as online. Most Zigbee devices will automatically reconnect within a few minutes.

Fix 2: Check Your Network Connection

The Hub M3 requires a network connection to communicate with the Aqara cloud and your smart home platforms.

  1. If your hub uses Ethernet, verify the Ethernet cable is securely connected to both the hub and your router. Try a different cable if available.
  2. If your hub uses WiFi, confirm your router is online and broadcasting on 2.4 GHz. Check if other WiFi devices in the same area are working.
  3. Log into your router's admin page and verify the hub appears in the list of connected devices.
  4. If your router recently changed its WiFi password or SSID, you will need to reconfigure the hub's WiFi settings through the Aqara Home app.

Fix 3: Update Hub Firmware

  1. Open the Aqara Home app and navigate to the hub's device page.
  2. Tap the Settings gear icon and check for available firmware updates.
  3. If an update is available, install it. The hub will download the update, restart, and apply it automatically.
  4. Do not unplug the hub during a firmware update. The process typically takes 3 to 5 minutes.
  5. After the update, check if your Zigbee devices reconnect. Firmware updates often fix Zigbee routing and stability issues.

Fix 4: Reduce Zigbee Interference

Zigbee uses the 2.4 GHz frequency band, which is shared with WiFi routers, Bluetooth devices, and microwave ovens. Heavy interference can cause Zigbee devices to lose their connection to the hub.

  1. Move the hub at least 1 meter (3 feet) away from your WiFi router.
  2. If possible, change your WiFi router's 2.4 GHz channel. Zigbee typically operates on channel 15, 20, or 25, which correspond to WiFi channels 1, 6, and 11. Set your WiFi to a channel that does not overlap with your hub's Zigbee channel.
  3. Move the hub away from Bluetooth speakers, baby monitors, and USB 3.0 devices, all of which can generate 2.4 GHz interference.

Fix 5: Rebuild the Zigbee Mesh

If only some Zigbee devices are not responding, the issue may be with the Zigbee mesh network rather than the hub itself.

  1. Check which devices are unresponsive. If they are all in the same area of your home, there may be a coverage gap.
  2. Add a powered Zigbee device (such as an Aqara Smart Plug or wired Aqara Wall Switch) between the hub and the problem area. Powered Zigbee devices act as repeaters, extending the mesh.
  3. After adding a repeater, wait 15 to 30 minutes for the Zigbee mesh to reorganize. You can speed this up by restarting the hub.
  4. Note that battery-powered sensors (motion sensors, door sensors, etc.) do not act as repeaters — only mains-powered Zigbee devices do.

Fix 6: Re-Pair Unresponsive Devices

If specific Zigbee devices remain offline after trying the above fixes, they may need to be re-paired to the hub.

  1. In the Aqara Home app, go to the unresponsive device's page, tap Settings, and select Remove Device.
  2. Reset the device according to its type (usually a long press of the reset button for 5 seconds).
  3. Add the device again through the app by tapping + and following the pairing process.
  4. After re-pairing, recreate any automations that were linked to the device.

Fix 7: Factory Reset the Hub (Last Resort)

If the hub remains unresponsive after all other troubleshooting steps, a factory reset may be necessary. Warning: This will remove all paired devices and automations from the hub.

  1. Find the reset button on the hub (usually a small pinhole on the bottom or back).
  2. Press and hold the reset button with a paperclip for 10 seconds until the LED flashes rapidly.
  3. Set up the hub as a new device in the Aqara Home app.
  4. Re-pair all your Zigbee devices one by one.

When to Contact Support

If the hub's LED does not turn on at all even with a confirmed working power adapter, or if it repeatedly goes offline after a factory reset, the hub hardware may be defective. Contact Aqara Support for warranty service.
