Understanding the Issue

Eve MotionBlinds are motorized window coverings that integrate with Apple HomeKit, allowing you to control blinds and shades through the Home or Eve app, Siri voice commands, and automations. When the blinds or an associated Eve Shutter Switch stop moving or become unresponsive, the issue typically involves motor power, wireless connectivity, calibration, or the MotionBlinds bridge configuration.

Common Causes

  • The MotionBlinds motor battery is depleted (for battery-powered models)
  • The MotionBlinds bridge has lost its network connection
  • The blinds motor has reached its upper or lower travel limit and is stuck
  • Thread or Bluetooth connectivity between the blinds and HomeKit hub is disrupted
  • The blinds have not been properly calibrated for their travel range
  • The Eve Shutter Switch controlling the motor has lost power or connectivity
  • Firmware is outdated on the bridge, blinds motor, or Eve Shutter Switch
  • An obstruction is physically preventing the blind from moving

Step 1: Check Power Source

  1. For battery-powered MotionBlinds, check the battery level in the Eve or MotionBlinds app. Recharge or replace the battery pack if the level is low.
  2. For wired motors, verify the power cable is connected and the outlet or circuit is active.
  3. If using an Eve Shutter Switch to control the motor, check that the switch has power by pressing its physical buttons. If unresponsive, check the circuit breaker.
  4. Some MotionBlinds motors have a small LED indicator — check if it blinks or lights when you attempt to move the blinds.

Step 2: Check for Physical Obstructions

  1. Inspect the blind tracks, slats, or fabric for anything that could prevent movement — tangled cords, objects caught in the track, or fabric bunching at the top or bottom.
  2. Manually attempt to move the blinds by gently pulling them to confirm they are not mechanically stuck.
  3. For roller shades, check that the roller tube is properly seated in its brackets and has not come loose.
  4. Clear any obstructions and try operating the blinds again from the app.

Step 3: Recalibrate the Travel Limits

  1. Open the Eve app or MotionBlinds app and select the affected blind.
  2. Navigate to the calibration or limit-setting feature in the device settings.
  3. Follow the prompts to set the fully open and fully closed positions. The motor needs to learn these end points to operate correctly.
  4. If using an Eve Shutter Switch, calibrate through the Eve app's installation settings for that switch.
  5. Test intermediate positions (such as 25, 50, and 75 percent) to verify smooth operation across the entire range.

Step 4: Check Bridge and Network Connectivity

  1. If your MotionBlinds use a MotionBlinds bridge, verify the bridge is powered on and connected to your Wi-Fi network.
  2. Check the bridge's LED indicator — a solid light typically means connected, while blinking indicates a connection problem.
  3. Restart the bridge by unplugging it for 30 seconds and plugging it back in.
  4. In the Home app, check if the blinds appear and whether they show No Response.
  5. For Thread-enabled setups, verify your Thread border router (HomePod Mini or Apple TV 4K) is online.

Step 5: Restart Devices

  1. Power cycle the blinds motor by removing and reinserting the battery pack, or by toggling the power connection for wired models.
  2. If using an Eve Shutter Switch, turn off the circuit breaker for 30 seconds and restore power.
  3. Restart your Apple Home hub by unplugging it for 30 seconds.
  4. Wait two to three minutes for all devices to reconnect and then test blind control from the Home app.

Step 6: Update Firmware

  1. Open the Eve app and go to Settings > Devices.
  2. Check for firmware updates on the Eve Shutter Switch and any Eve accessories in the setup.
  3. If using the MotionBlinds app, check for motor firmware updates there as well.
  4. Install all available updates and test operation afterward.

Step 7: Reset and Re-Pair

  1. If the blinds remain unresponsive, reset the motor using the reset procedure in the MotionBlinds manual (typically involves holding a button on the motor head for several seconds).
  2. Remove the blind from the Home app and the MotionBlinds bridge if applicable.
  3. Re-pair the blind by adding it fresh through the bridge or directly through HomeKit using the setup code.
  4. Recalibrate the travel limits after re-pairing.

Additional Tips

  • Battery-powered MotionBlinds motors typically last 6 to 12 months on a single charge depending on usage frequency. Set up a recharging schedule to avoid unexpected outages.
  • If you have multiple blinds in one room, group them in the Home app so they can be controlled together with a single command.
  • Create sunrise and sunset automations to automate daily blind positions for energy savings and privacy.
