Understanding the Issue
The Eve Button is a compact, battery-powered HomeKit controller that triggers scenes and actions with a single press. When the device stops responding or frequently disconnects from HomeKit, it typically points to Bluetooth range limitations, low battery, or home hub connectivity problems.
Common Causes
- The Eve Button's battery is depleted or nearly empty
- The device is out of Bluetooth range from your Apple Home hub
- The HomeKit home hub (HomePod, HomePod Mini, or Apple TV 4K) is not active or is experiencing issues
- The Eve Button has been removed or lost its pairing with HomeKit
- Firmware is outdated, causing connection drops
- Too many Bluetooth accessories are competing for connection slots on the hub
- The assigned scene or automation has been deleted or modified
Step 1: Check Battery Level
- Open the Eve app and navigate to the Eve Button in your device list.
- Check the battery level indicator. The Eve Button uses a CR2032 coin cell battery.
- If the battery is below 20 percent or the device is unresponsive, replace the battery with a fresh CR2032.
- After replacing the battery, wait one minute and then check the Home app to see if the device reconnects.
Step 2: Verify Bluetooth Range
- The Eve Button communicates over Bluetooth Low Energy and does not support Thread or Wi-Fi. Its range is typically 10 to 15 meters (30 to 50 feet) with a clear line of sight to the home hub.
- Move the Eve Button closer to your HomePod, HomePod Mini, or Apple TV 4K to test if the connection stabilizes.
- Walls, floors, and large metal objects significantly reduce Bluetooth range. If the button is in a different room from the hub, try placing the hub closer or adding another Apple TV or HomePod in range.
Step 3: Restart the Home Hub
- Identify which device is acting as your active HomeKit home hub by opening the Home app, tapping the three-dot menu, and selecting Home Settings. Your hub should show as Connected.
- Unplug the home hub (HomePod, HomePod Mini, or Apple TV 4K) for 30 seconds and plug it back in.
- Wait two to three minutes for the hub to fully restart and re-establish Bluetooth connections with all accessories.
- Check the Eve Button's status in the Home app.
Step 4: Check the Assigned Scene or Action
- Open the Eve app and go to the Eve Button's settings.
- Verify that a scene is assigned to each button press type (single press, double press, long press).
- If the assigned scene was deleted or its accessories were removed, the button will not perform any action even though it is connected.
- Reassign scenes as needed. Create a new scene in the Home app first if the original scene no longer exists.
Step 5: Update Firmware
- Open the Eve app and go to Settings > Devices.
- Select the Eve Button and check for available firmware updates.
- Install updates if available, keeping your phone near the button during the process.
- After the update, test the button by pressing it and confirming the assigned scene executes.
Step 6: Reset and Re-Add the Eve Button
- If the button continues to disconnect or not respond, reset it by pressing and holding the button for 10 seconds until the LED flashes.
- Remove the Eve Button from the Home app by long-pressing the accessory, opening its settings, and selecting Remove Accessory.
- Re-add the button by scanning its HomeKit setup code.
- Reassign the desired scenes to each press action in the Eve app.
Additional Tips
- The Eve Button relies entirely on Bluetooth, so it is more range-limited than Thread devices. Place it within reliable range of your hub for consistent operation.
- If you have many Bluetooth HomeKit accessories, your hub may reach its connection limit. Consider upgrading to a Thread-based controller if your workflow allows.
- Keep a spare CR2032 battery on hand, as low battery is one of the most common causes of unresponsiveness.
