Shark Matrix and IQ robot vacuums offer strong suction, self-emptying bases, and mopping on select models. When the robot will not connect, loses its map, or the self-empty base stops working, here is how to troubleshoot.
Robot Not Connecting to WiFi
- Place the robot on the dock, powered on. It must be docked for pairing.
- Confirm your WiFi is 2.4GHz. Shark does not support 5GHz. Split bands if using a combined SSID.
- Follow app prompts exactly. Listen for voice confirmation like "Ready to connect."
- Grant SharkClean location permission on Android for WiFi scanning.
- Restart router and robot, wait two minutes, then try again.
- WiFi reset: Hold dock + clean buttons for 10 seconds until you hear a tone.
Map Not Saving or Inaccurate
- Let the robot complete an entire run without pausing or manually docking. Interrupted runs often fail to save the map.
- Do not move the dock. It is the robot's reference point for all navigation.
- Clear the floor before the mapping run. Clutter creates inaccurate maps with missing areas.
- The robot may need 2-3 runs to fully refine the map. Wait before editing room boundaries.
- Multi-floor: Carry robot and dock to a new floor for a separate map.
Self-Empty Base Not Working
- Check the base bin. Heavy pet hair use fills it much faster than the 60-day rating.
- Make sure the robot fully docks. Self-empty only triggers when properly seated.
- Clean the suction path on both the robot bottom port and dock port for debris or hair clogs.
- Loud suction noise is normal. If it runs but nothing empties, there is a clog.
Mopping Issues
- Attach the mopping pad -- it snaps or Velcros to the bottom. Without it, the robot vacuums only.
- Fill the water tank. Empty tanks mean dry pads just pushing dirt around.
- Select mop mode in the app. Some models require explicitly choosing vacuum+mop mode to dispense water.
- Use no-mop zones in the app if the robot does not auto-detect carpet. Prevent wet pads on carpeted areas.
- Replace pads every 1-2 months. Worn pads lose scrubbing ability.
Robot Getting Stuck
- Pick up cables, shoes, and small items. Cables are the number one trap.
- Set no-go zones for consistent problem areas like under low furniture or near pet bowls.
- Check wheels for wrapped hair. Inspect drive wheels and caster regularly.
- Dark floor issues: Cliff sensors mistake very dark rugs for ledges. Clean the sensor windows with a dry cloth.
- Clean the brush roll. Cut away wrapped hair with scissors. A clogged brush stalls the motor.
Voice Control
Link SharkClean in Alexa or Google Home. Commands include "Start cleaning," "Clean the kitchen," and "Return to dock." Rename rooms in the app for natural voice commands.
Factory Reset
If the robot is completely unresponsive, hold the power button and another button for 10-15 seconds (check your manual for the exact method). You will need to reconnect WiFi and remap afterward.
When to Contact Shark
Contact Shark if drive motors make grinding sounds, the self-empty motor runs with zero suction, the battery will not hold a charge within the first year, or an error code persists after cleaning all sensors and wheels. Two-year warranty on most models.
