These three names get searched together constantly, and the comparison is almost always framed the wrong way. Tado, Sensibo, and Flair Puck are not three versions of the same product. They are three different answers to three different questions, and picking between them on features is how people end up returning hardware.

Why This Comparison Is Usually the Wrong One
Search for “tado vs sensibo” and you will get a lot of pages comparing app screenshots. That misses the thing that actually determines whether either product works in your house.
Sensibo makes infrared blasters. They sit on the wall, learn your AC remote's codes, and fire them back on a schedule. If your AC came with a handheld remote, Sensibo can drive it. If your AC is controlled by a wall thermostat wired into ductwork, Sensibo cannot help you at all.
Tado sells two product lines that share a brand and almost nothing else. The Smart AC Control is an infrared blaster, the same category as Sensibo. The Smart Thermostat and Smart Radiator Thermostat are wired devices for central heating and hydronic radiators. Flair is the odd one out, and the most misunderstood. The Puck can act as an infrared controller like the other two, but that is its side job. That last row catches people out. All three infrared options work by impersonating a remote control. No remote, no signal to copy, no product.

Sky vs Air vs Air Pro

The Air Pro adds an air quality sensor. Whether that is worth the step up depends entirely on whether you will act on the reading. If you already own an air quality monitor, you are paying twice for the same number.
What the Subscription Actually Gates
Sensibo sells an optional paid tier. The important thing is what stays free: scheduling, remote control, and basic geofencing all work without paying anything. The paid tier layers on extras rather than holding the core hostage.
That is a meaningfully different posture from Tado's, and it is the single biggest reason to pick Sensibo if you are choosing between the two infrared products. Check current tier contents before buying — these change — but the shape of the deal has been stable.
Tado: Two Different Products Wearing One Name
Tado's engineering is good. The confusion is a marketing problem, not a hardware one.
The Smart AC Control
This is Tado's infrared blaster, and it competes directly with the Sensibo Air. It is a capable device with a well-built app and genuinely good open-window detection.
The Wired Thermostats
The Smart Thermostat Starter Kit replaces a wall thermostat and drives a central heating system. The Smart Radiator Thermostat screws onto individual radiator valves for per-room hydronic control. Neither has anything to do with air conditioning, and neither competes with Sensibo in any way.

The Auto-Assist Problem
Tado puts geofencing and open-window detection behind a paid subscription called Auto-Assist. Buy the hardware and those two features stop working unless you keep paying.
This is the most common complaint about the platform and the thing to weigh hardest. Geofencing is not a luxury add-on for a climate controller — “turn the AC off when everyone leaves” is most of the point. Paying a recurring fee for it, on top of hardware that already costs more than the alternatives, is why a lot of people who like the hardware still recommend against it.
Flair Puck: The One That Does Zoning
Flair is playing a different game. The Puck is a round, screen-equipped room controller that can run on batteries or USB power, and it does three things at once: reads room temperature, controls a mini-split over infrared, and acts as the brain for Flair's motorised vents.
Pucks on Their Own
Used alone against a mini-split, a Puck is roughly a Sensibo with a nicer display and a more open API. That is a fair fight and a reasonable purchase.
Pucks Plus Smart Vents
This is where Flair has no competition in this comparison. Smart Vents replace your existing floor or ceiling registers with motorised versions. Put a Puck in each room, and the system closes vents in rooms that have hit their target and opens vents in rooms that have not.
If your complaint is “the upstairs bedroom is always eight degrees warmer than the living room,” this is the only product here that addresses it. Sensibo and Tado will make your existing single-zone system more convenient. They will not make it a multi-zone system.
The cost scales with room count, and it is not cheap. A Puck plus vents for three or four rooms is a serious purchase. But it is solving a problem the others cannot touch.

What Happens When the Internet Goes Down
Every one of these is a cloud product by default, and this is worth understanding before you buy rather than during an outage.
All three keep running schedules that are already loaded. What you lose is remote control from outside the house, and in most cases the ability to change anything from the app.
The clearest exception is HomeKit. Sensibo Air exposes itself to HomeKit, so an Apple household keeps local control through a HomePod or Apple TV hub even with the WAN down — that path runs on your own network by design rather than by permission. Flair has been the most open of the three about third-party access; if strictly local operation is your reason for buying, confirm the current state of its local API against your firmware first. Tado is the most cloud-dependent.
If “works during an outage” is a real requirement rather than a nice-to-have, that ordering is your answer: Flair, then Sensibo, then Tado.
Running These With Home Assistant
All three have Home Assistant integrations, but they are not equivalent.
Flair's is the most capable of the three and exposes the most to work with, including per-room targets and vent positions. Flair has also been the most willing to support access outside its own app. Verify the current local API status rather than assuming it, but as a platform to automate against it is the richest of the three.
Sensibo's integration is cloud-polled. It works reliably and has been maintained for years, but every command makes a round trip to Sensibo's servers. In practice you will notice a delay of a second or two.
Tado's is also cloud-based, with the added wrinkle that features gated behind Auto-Assist stay gated in Home Assistant. You cannot subscribe your way out of it with automations, and you cannot automate your way out of the subscription either.
The Five-Year Cost
Hardware price is the number people compare. For these products it is frequently not the number that decides it.
Sensibo and Flair both let you run indefinitely on the hardware you bought. Tado's recurring Auto-Assist fee accrues for as long as you own the device, and over a five-year life it can approach or exceed what you paid for the hardware — per device, if you are controlling more than one unit.
Run that arithmetic for your own room count and current pricing before buying. A single-room Tado install and a five-room Tado install are very different propositions, and the second one is where the subscription model starts to hurt.
Which One Should You Buy?
One or two mini-splits, no subscription tolerance: Sensibo Air. It covers the core use case, keeps geofencing free, and the HomeKit path gives you a local fallback.
Uneven temperatures across a ducted house: Flair Puck with Smart Vents. It is the expensive answer and the only real one.
Home Assistant, and you want the deepest control: Flair Puck. If strictly local operation is the hard requirement rather than a preference, check Flair's current local API before committing, and treat Sensibo Air through HomeKit as the fallback that is local by design.
Radiators or European central heating: Tado, and the comparison to Sensibo was never relevant to you.
You already own Tado hardware: keep it, and decide about Auto-Assist on its own merits. The hardware is good. The question is only whether the recurring cost is worth the two features it holds.
