What's in the Box
Before getting started, confirm that your Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra package includes the following items: the S8 MaxV Ultra robot vacuum, the RockDock Ultra docking station, a power cable, a side brush, a mopping pad, dust bags, cleaning solution, and the quick start guide. Verify that all components are present and undamaged before proceeding with setup.
Prerequisites
To ensure a smooth installation, you'll want to have a few things ready ahead of time:
- A stable 2.4 GHz WiFi network (the S8 MaxV Ultra supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands)
- The Roborock app installed on your iOS or Android smartphone
- A flat, open area near a wall outlet for the RockDock Ultra — allow at least 1.5 feet of clearance on each side and 4 feet in front of the dock
- Clean, clutter-free floors for the initial mapping run
Step-by-Step Setup
- Assemble the RockDock Ultra: Place the docking station against a wall on a hard, flat surface. Connect the power cable and plug it into a wall outlet. Fill the clean water tank with fresh water and add Roborock cleaning solution to the designated reservoir. Insert a dust bag into the auto-empty compartment.
- Prepare the robot: Remove all protective films and shipping tape from the S8 MaxV Ultra. Flip the robot over and install the side brush by pressing it onto the spindle until it clicks. Attach the mopping pad to the bottom of the unit using the magnetic mount.
- Power on: Place the robot on the RockDock Ultra to begin charging. The indicator light will pulse while charging. Allow the robot to charge fully before the first cleaning run — this typically takes around 4 to 6 hours for a full charge.
- Connect to the Roborock app: Open the Roborock app and tap the "+" icon to add a new device. Select "Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra" from the device list. Follow the on-screen prompts to connect the robot to your WiFi network. The robot will emit a voice confirmation once connected successfully.
- Run the initial mapping: Start a full mapping run from the app by tapping "Start" on the home screen. The S8 MaxV Ultra uses its Reactive 3D Obstacle Avoidance and LiDAR navigation to create a detailed map of your home. Keep doors open to all rooms you want mapped. This first run may take longer than usual as the robot prioritizes thorough exploration over cleaning.
- Customize your map: Once mapping is complete, review the floor plan in the Roborock app. You can name rooms, set no-go zones, define no-mop areas (like carpeted rooms), and create invisible walls. Adjust suction power and water flow settings for each room individually.
Smart Home Integration Tips
The Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra works with Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Apple Siri Shortcuts. To connect with Alexa or Google Home, open the respective app and search for the Roborock skill or action, then link your Roborock account. Once connected, you can use voice commands like "Alexa, tell Roborock to start cleaning" or "Hey Google, start the vacuum." For Apple users, you can create Siri Shortcuts through the Roborock app to trigger cleaning with custom voice commands. The robot also supports Matter integration for broader smart home compatibility.
Quick Troubleshooting
If the robot doesn't appear in the Roborock app during setup, press and hold the power button and the home button simultaneously for 3 seconds to reset the WiFi connection. Make sure your phone is connected to the same WiFi network you want the robot to use. If the RockDock Ultra's auto-empty or auto-mop wash functions aren't working, check that the water tanks are properly seated and that the dust bag isn't full. For any persistent issues, check the Roborock app for firmware updates, as these often resolve connectivity and performance problems.
