The Aqara Wireless Remote Switch H1 is a battery-powered Zigbee wall switch that mounts to any surface without wiring. It features a rocker-style design with one or two buttons (depending on the model), and each button supports single press, double press, and long press actions. This makes it an ideal companion for Aqara smart lights and scenes.
What You Will Need
- Aqara Wireless Remote Switch H1
- Aqara Hub (M2, M3, or Camera Hub G3) already set up on your network
- Aqara Home app installed on your smartphone (iOS or Android)
- CR2032 coin cell battery (included)
- Included adhesive mounting plate or screws
Preparing the Switch
- Remove the switch from its packaging and locate the battery compartment on the back.
- Pull the battery isolation tab to activate the CR2032 battery.
- The LED indicator should flash once to confirm the switch has power.
Pairing with Your Aqara Hub
- Open the Aqara Home app on your smartphone.
- Tap the + icon in the upper-right corner.
- Select Wireless Remote Switch H1 from the device list, or scan the QR code on the packaging.
- Choose the Aqara Hub to pair with.
- Press and hold the reset button (a small pinhole on the side or back of the switch) for 5 seconds using a pin or paperclip until the LED flashes rapidly.
- Wait for the app to discover and connect the switch.
- Assign it to a room and give it a name like "Hallway Switch" or "Living Room Remote."
Mounting the Switch
The H1 Wireless Remote is designed to look and feel like a regular wall switch. You have two mounting options:
- Adhesive mount — Peel the backing from the included 3M adhesive pad and press the mounting plate firmly against the wall. Wait at least 30 minutes before attaching the switch to allow the adhesive to bond. Then snap the switch onto the plate.
- Screw mount — Use the included screws to secure the mounting plate directly to the wall. This is more permanent and recommended for high-traffic areas. Snap the switch onto the plate after securing.
Choose a location at standard light switch height (approximately 120 centimeters from the floor) for a natural feel. You can also mount it beside an existing switch that you want to keep in the "always on" position for smart bulbs.
Configuring Button Actions
Each button on the H1 supports three actions, giving you up to six automations on the double-rocker model:
- Single press — One quick press of the rocker button.
- Double press — Two quick presses in succession.
- Long press — Press and hold for about 2 seconds.
To assign automations to each action:
- Go to the Automations tab in the Aqara Home app.
- Tap + to create a new automation.
- Select the Wireless Remote Switch H1 as the trigger.
- Choose the specific button (left or right on double-rocker models) and the press type.
- Add your desired action — toggle lights, activate a scene, adjust a thermostat, or any combination.
- Save and test the automation.
Practical Use Cases
- Smart bulb control — Mount next to the physical switch you keep in the "on" position. Single press toggles the smart bulb, double press changes color temperature, long press dims to nightlight mode.
- Scene controller — Left button activates "Movie Mode" (dim lights, close blinds), right button restores normal lighting.
- Three-way switch replacement — Place the wireless switch at the other end of a hallway or room where you want a second switch point without running new wires.
- Bedside controller — Mount on the wall beside your bed for easy access to bedroom lights and goodnight routines.
Tips
- The CR2032 battery typically lasts about two years under normal use.
- The switch is within Zigbee range when placed within 10 to 15 meters of the hub with minimal wall obstructions.
- To remove the switch from the mounting plate for battery replacement, gently pry it from the bottom edge.
- Keep firmware updated through the Aqara Home app for optimal performance.
