What's in the Box
The IKEA Dirigera Smart Home Hub ships with the hub unit itself, an Ethernet cable, a USB-C power cable with adapter, and a quick start guide. The Dirigera features a distinctive flat, round design with a fabric-covered top and built-in LED status indicator. Unlike its predecessor the TRADFRI Gateway, the Dirigera supports Zigbee, Thread, and Matter protocols, making it IKEA's most versatile smart home hub to date.
Prerequisites
Before you begin setup, make sure you have the following ready:
- A Wi-Fi network with a working internet connection
- A smartphone or tablet with the IKEA Home Smart app installed (available on iOS and Android)
- Your router nearby with an available Ethernet port — the Dirigera requires a wired connection to your network
- An IKEA account (you can create one during setup if needed)
Step-by-Step Setup
- Connect the Ethernet cable. Plug one end of the included Ethernet cable into the back of the Dirigera hub and the other end into an available port on your router or network switch.
- Power up the hub. Connect the USB-C power cable to the Dirigera and plug the adapter into a wall outlet. The LED on the hub will begin pulsing white, indicating it is ready to be paired.
- Open the IKEA Home Smart app. Launch the app on your phone and sign in to your IKEA account. If this is your first time, tap "Get started" and follow the on-screen prompts.
- Add the hub. The app should automatically detect the Dirigera on your network. Tap the hub when it appears, then scan the QR code on the bottom of the device to confirm pairing.
- Complete the setup. Name your hub and assign it to a room. The app may prompt you to install a firmware update — allow this to finish before adding devices, as it can take several minutes.
- Start adding devices. Once the hub is ready, tap the "+" icon in the app to begin pairing your IKEA smart home accessories such as bulbs, sensors, blinds, and remotes.
Smart Home Integration Tips
The Dirigera hub is Matter-compatible, which means you can connect it to Apple Home, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa for cross-platform voice control. To enable this, go to the hub settings in the IKEA Home Smart app and look for the "Integrations" section. From there, you can generate a Matter pairing code to add the hub to your preferred ecosystem. Keep in mind that not all IKEA devices are exposed through Matter yet — older Zigbee accessories like the original TRADFRI remotes may not appear in third-party apps.
If you use Home Assistant, the Dirigera can be integrated via the official IKEA integration or through its local API. Many advanced users prefer pairing Zigbee devices directly with a Zigbee coordinator like the Sonoff Zigbee dongle for more granular control.
Quick Troubleshooting
If the Dirigera is not detected during setup, confirm the Ethernet cable is securely connected and that your phone is on the same Wi-Fi network as the router the hub is plugged into. A solid red LED indicates a connection error — try restarting your router and the hub. If the LED pulses orange, a firmware update is in progress; wait for it to complete before retrying. You can factory reset the Dirigera by pressing and holding the reset button on the bottom of the hub for at least five seconds until the LED flashes.
