Weather forecasts tell you what might happen in your general area. A personal weather station tells you exactly what's happening at your house right now. This hyperlocal data is invaluable for automations — your backyard conditions can differ significantly from the nearest weather station miles away.

Sensors That Matter for Automation

A good weather station provides data points that power smart automations:

  • Temperature — Trigger heating/cooling, open/close motorized windows, alert for freeze warnings
  • Wind speed — Retract awnings, close motorized blinds, secure outdoor items
  • Rain sensor — Skip irrigation, close skylights, send alerts to bring in laundry
